Unconscious bias

Despite organisations spending considerable time, effort and money to ensure they operate fairly and provide equal opportunities for everyone, the consensus is that these corporate efforts have made little progress to date. But why is this so? An explanation can be found in unconscious bias. Organisational diversity and inclusion initiatives will continue to founder until we, as individuals, accept that we are all biased and that unconscious bias is a normal component of our psychological makeup. Only by acknowledging and understanding our own unconscious bias can we find ways of learning how to reduce its' effect and introduce techniques to eliminate bias in our organisations.

Our unconscious bias awareness raising sessions are delivered in a variety of formats and are suitable for individuals or groups at all levels in the organisation. They are designed to help participants understand:

  • The importance of diversity
  • How to manage diversity
  • To understand unconscious bias and to minimise its impact

These sessions are normally delivered face to face, but we have also created an e-learning and DVD solution available through SkillBoosters. A Train the Trainer package has also been developed and successfully introduced by a number of organisations.

Evaluations of our unconscious bias training have consistently shown that they are considered of benefit by participants and behaviours have changed as a consequence.
