Inclusive Group Analysis

Inclusive Group Analysis is a method of examining the networks and connections that exist within a team, function or department.  It is particularly helpful from a diversity perspective as it provides insight into how genuinely inclusive the culture is, and whether there are groups of people who are excluded, be that on a conscious or unconscious basis.  The analysis also identifies how diversity aspects such as gender, ethnicity and age affect the shape of the network.

There are 5 easy steps to undertaking the analysis:

  1. Decide which group of people you would like to undertake the analysis.  Pearn Kandola will provide support in identifying which groups it would be most effective to include.  The analysis can be completed for group sizes from 5 people up to a maximum of 30 people.
  2. Provide Pearn Kandola with an Excel spreadsheet of the individuals’ details.
  3. Pearn Kandola will send out an email welcoming people to the process, explaining the purposes of the analysis and how the data will be used (covering confidentiality questions etc).  Participants will be asked to click on a link which will take them to an online survey to complete.
  4. Following guidance, participants are asked to select a number of people in their group with whom they work.  For each person selected, they complete some anonymous questions about the level and type of contact with that person.  It takes approximately 12 minutes to answer questions for 8 people.
  5. The data is then collected and analysed by Pearn Kandola; the results of this analysis and the subsequent maps are shared and reviewed with the key stakeholders within your organisation.

You will receive “network maps” of your team, function or department illustrating how inclusive the group is.  We will also illustrate the map to identify any diversity themes, such as how well networked women and ethnic minority employees are.  If you have opted for additional questions, such as mapping the provision of development opportunities, maps will also be provided in order to identify any discrepancies.  This enables issues such as cloning, career blocks and exclusive networks to be identified and addressed, with a view to creating a more inclusive culture.  We will meet with you to present the results of the network analysis and discuss implications for the team, together with any recommended actions.
